Starting week 6. I am working on the proposal and also the progress report.
1.0 ABSTRACT
The Portable EMG recording system
during sleeping is created due to measure muscle waves of a patient during rest
time. The main objective of this equipment is to diagnosing any muscle problems
such as pain, cramping, or weakness in the muscles and nerves. Many people
experience cramping when they woke up in the morning. This is show that many
people are actually having weakness of their muscles. There are few causes that
may lead to the cramping or muscles problem, people with lacks of nutrients are
the most victims of the muscles weakness. So, the portable EMG recording system
during sleeping will monitor the muscle wave during the rest time whether it is
working normally or not. The recorded wave will be shown to the doctor to
diagnose any problem before patients get any treatment. This product is attached
as patient nightwear. It is a product that comforts to be wear, flexible and
painless compared to any other way in monitoring the muscles wave. It is also
has no side effects which is good for everyone.Every muscle waves from patient’s
body will be recorded in the memory card and patient will send it to their
medical advisor to monitor all the waves. This is one of the methods that are
good to help people with muscle problem without need they to stay in the
hospital to be monitor. This research study will review the
various types and configuration of EMG recording system which will be applied
in this project.

INTRODUCTION
Muscle is the contractile tissue. The function of muscle is to
produce force and cause motion. Muscle can be classified into three which are
skeletal, cardiac or smooth muscles. There are two broad types of voluntary
muscle fibers which are slow twitch and fast twitch. Slow twitch fibers
contract for long periods of time but with little force while fast twitch
fibers contract quickly and powerfully but fatigue very rapidly.
Muscle contraction will produce waves. As to measure the wave of
muscle there is an instrument that called Electromyograph (EMG) used.
Electromyograph (EMG) is and instrument used to record the electrical activity
of the muscles when these cells contract and also when these cell are at rest.
A typical EMG signals range from 0.1 to 0.5mV and they may contain frequency
components extending up to 10 kHz. EMG usually recorded by using surface
electrode that is total non-invasive or often needle electrode which is
invasive inserted directly into the muscle. The surface electrodes may be
disposable, adhesive types or the ones which can be used repeatedly. There are
only four parts of body that EMG can be applied on which includes arms, legs,
trunk and back.
Besides recording the muscle waves, EMG also used for nerve
conduction studies. EMG have several purposes that includes done to aid in
diagnosing the source of pain, or weakness in the muscles and nerves,
differentiates between true muscle weakness and limitation due to pain,
determine if muscles are working properly or not and distinguish between muscle
and nerve disorders. EMG will take 30 to 60 minutes depending on the number of
muscles examined. The test will not give adverse effects to the patient’s body but
if invasive electrodes are used it may cause painful or extremely painful to
the patient.
As to avoid any painful
to patient and make it as a portable EMG recording system, this product should
be a painless (non-invasive electrode used) and portable (wireless and
flexible) to be attached at patient’s body during their rest time.
